I read today that Rachel Ray’s ad for Dunkin Donuts was pulled because conservative commentator Michelle Malkin said it looked like a kiffiyeh. What’s that?
I looked around online and found out that the kiffiyeh is a kind of head scarf that is often worn by Muslim terrorists. Funny, one website said that St. Joseph wore a kiffiyeh from Israel in their Christmas play. So apparently the kiffiyeh is a traditional middle eastern clothing item that is worn by Israelis and Arabs alike. (Sometimes it is spelled keffiyeh).
Besides, the scarf worn by Rachel Ray is not really a kiffiyeh, it is just a fancy scarf. And it was not even chosen by Rachel Ray, it was chosen by a stylist.
Do we have to examine every piece of clothing we put on now, along with everything else we need to worry about? I really think this political correctness thing has gone way too far.
I am not sure what Michelle Malkin actually said, but it must have been quite the talk if it caused Dunkin Donuts to pull their ad.
This whole kiffiyeh thing is starting me to thinking, are we going back to the McCarthy days when you had to worry that people would think you were a communist for some reason? Now you have to worry that people will think you are endorsing terrorism by wearing the wrong scarf.
What do you think?
OMFG.. how far are we going to allow these extremists go in calling out “political incorrectness” this Rachel Ray incident only goes to further prove my point that people have LOST what little minds they had!! Rachel Ray is as American and Apple pie as almost anyone on TV. I look at the picture of this “offensive” scarf around her NECK and think OMG how stupid is this Michelle Malkin.. someone needs to buy her a CLUE. I’m a proud American, USA Flag waiving, God fearing person and this Ms Malkin OFFENDS me more than a “Scarf” ever could… yes ITS JUST A SCARF. Sincerely, Mark Murphy
I think it’s ridiculous and inflamitory. I was really hoping that we would be past all of the anti-islamic propaganda. We’re already at war, what more do they want?
Funny I just blogged the same article…
In fact this whole thing with Rachael is what made me start my blog in the first place… Next we’ll all be locked in our homes afraid to do anything that might offend someone.
What happened to the days off self preservation and standing up for your rights. If Rachael wants to wear a scarf then she can and if you don’t like it close your eyes…
You are absolutely right! There are too many “paranoids” running around telling us what to do, and not to do! If the terrorists don’t like it, they can bend over and pray to allah……I cringe when I think back on WHO it was that trained these people to be terrorists in the first place!!!!!!! Maybe this Country needs to be taken down a peg or two, starting at the White House……….
The ghost of terrorism will be kept alive even after its long gone, thanks to the likes of Malkin and her hyperbole
This is insane!!! Obviously Ms. Malkin is either ignorant, or stupid if she can link kiffiyeh to terrorism. True, by some Kiffiyeh has a political message, like black and white means freedom, while red and white means patriotism. Its funny though, I have red and white one, and I am not particularly patriotic to one nation, because I am multi-national American. My husband is Indian of middle eastern decent, mom is Persian, dad Chinese, I have dual citizenship, Uzbek and American. Politics often serve interest of the few not the whole nation. Just as US constitution often gave rights of white europeans, but not blacks. My point is that kiffiyeh is a very comfortable head garment if you are that can keep you cool somewhere very hot (middle east) and warm if you are somewhere cooler (Chicago?). I see many people wearing it nowadays, and I am sure they don’t even know what is the name of it, or what it symbolizes. Qatari men wear kiffiyeh, and they are the most modern, forward and educated among middle easterners. If we ship Ms. Malkin to Qatar she will get a hear attack thinking she is surrounded by terrorist. I hate some of these ignorant people in US, clearly they cannot use their head
Really? Did anyone consider what Timothy McVeigh wore the day he bombed Oaklahoma? This is awful! Forget racial profiling…now we have come to fashion profiling. Retailers are pulling them off their shelves. And for what reason? Well, some people have complained that the kiffiyeh supports terrorist activity. Get over yourselves! Go to the Middle-East and you will be purchasing one to keep you cool, free from sweat and to protect your face from the wind and harsh sun. Find something else to complain about people!
